Target Audience
Civilian populations in Europe are seeking advanced preparedness for threats in asymmetric warfare environments, particularly those interested in practical defence skills beyond basic awareness training.
Please Note: Delegates should already have basic weapon competency before attending this course.
Introduction
This intensive two-day asymmetric warfare training module, part of the School of Ungentlemanly Warfare, prepares civilians for small unit tactics and rural patrol operations in unconventional conflict scenarios. Drawing from the traditions of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), this course focuses on asymmetric warfare principles where smaller forces exploit enemy vulnerabilities through innovative tactics, mobility, and psychological warfare.
The programme addresses the reality that modern warfare increasingly involves hybrid threats, irregular forces, and unconventional tactics that conventional military doctrine cannot adequately counter. As Europe faces escalating geopolitical tensions, civilian preparedness has become essential, not merely advisable.
Course Context Within School of Ungentlemanly Warfare
This module forms part of PrepYou.Eu’s comprehensive 14-day School of Ungentlemanly Warfare programme. Drawing inspiration from Churchill’s SOE and emphasising civilian preparedness for modern hybrid threats, the course addresses the reality that future European conflicts will likely involve asymmetric tactics, guerrilla warfare, and unconventional operations.
The training recognises that in asymmetric warfare, the human factor often proves decisive against technologically superior forces. By developing tactical innovation, psychological resilience, and operational adaptability, civilians can contribute effectively to resistance operations should conventional deterrence fail.
This intensive programme provides essential skills for navigating the complexities of modern irregular warfare, preparing participants to operate effectively within the framework of legitimate resistance operations whilst maintaining the ethical standards that distinguish lawful combatants from criminal actors.
Training Philosophy
Asymmetric Advantage Development
The course emphasises developing tactical thinking that exploits conventional force vulnerabilities whilst maximising limited resources. Participants learn to think like irregular fighters, using deception, mobility, and surprise to overcome superior forces.
Stress Inoculation Training
Training scenarios replicate the psychological pressure of asymmetric operations, developing decision-making abilities under extreme stress. Multiple scenarios test adaptability and innovative problem-solving.
Operational Security Integration
All training phases incorporate comprehensive OPSEC principles, emphasising information security, communication discipline, and counter-surveillance awareness.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Conducting individual and team movement in hostile territory
- Planning and executing irregular ambush operations
- Responding effectively to enemy contact using asymmetric principles
- Establishing and operating from concealed positions
- Gathering intelligence whilst maintaining operational security
- Exploiting enemy weaknesses through innovative tactical approaches
- Maintaining morale and effectiveness under psychological pressure
Pre-Course Online Module (2 Hours)
Session Architecture
The preparatory online session introduces fundamental asymmetric warfare concepts through tactical problem-solving exercises that participants will execute physically during the field training. This approach mirrors the SOE’s emphasis on theoretical grounding before operational deployment.
