SURVIVAL, EVASION, RESISTANCE AND ESCAPE (SERE)
This enhanced Citizen Soldier course based on our highly successful BUG OUT & Survival package, integrates survival skills, firearms training, mental resilience techniques, and hands-on experience with a wide range of survival tools and weapons. Participants will handle and train with axes, knives, irritant gels/gases, gas pistols, and military-grade firearms, including AK-47s and Glock 17s. A total of 80 rounds of ammunition is included for live-fire exercises.
This training package is delivered the first weekend of every month, 12 months a year and is open to anyone over 18 years of age.
Day 1: Survival Skills, Tools Familiarization, and Firearms Basics
Morning Session: Survival Fundamentals
1. Introduction to SERE Principles
- Overview of Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) concepts.
- Prioritizing survival needs: shelter, water, fire, food.
2. Fieldcraft Skills
- Building emergency shelters using natural materials.
- Firecraft: starting and maintaining a fire with limited tools.
- Water procurement: locating, filtering, and purifying water.
Midday Session: Survival Tools & Non-lethal Weapon Training
3. Axes and Knives
- Types of axes: survival hand axes, tomahawks, multi-tool axes.
- Knife handling: bushcraft knives for cutting, carving, and self-defence.
- Practical exercises: chopping wood for shelter or fire; crafting tools from raw materials.
4. Irritant Gels/Gases and Gas Pistols
- Overview of irritant sprays (pepper spray) for self-defence.
- Handling gas pistols as non-lethal deterrents in survival situations.
- Practice scenarios for deploying irritants safely under stress.
Afternoon Session: Firearms Familiarisation
5. Safety and Weapon
 Handling
- Firearm safety rules for high-stress situations.
- Basic operation of hunting rifles, shotguns, revolvers, crossbows, AK-47s, Glock 17s.
6. Live Firearms Training
- Shooting fundamentals: stance, grip, aiming, trigger control.
- Hands-on practice with:
- Hunting rifles for precision shooting.
- Shotguns for close-range defence or hunting.
- Revolvers for versatility in survival scenarios.
- Crossbows for silent hunting or defence.
- Military-grade weapons like the AK-47 and Glock 17.
7. Mental Resilience Training – Stress Inoculation Training (SIT)
- Controlled exposure to stressors to build tolerance for high-pressure situations.
- Visualization Techniques
- Mental rehearsal of survival scenarios to prepare for emotional responses.
- Breathing techniques to maintain focus and calm under pressure.
Day 2: Advanced Fieldcraft, Tactical Skills, and Weapon Competency
Morning Session: Advanced Fieldcraft
8. Camouflage, Concealment and Evasion
- Techniques for blending into the environment – “The 5 S’s”
- Light and sound discipline to avoid detection.
- Introduction to Map & Compass
- DO NOT RELY ON TECH!
Midday Session: Tactical Weapons Use
10. Axes as Combat Tools & Knives in Self-Defence
- Using tomahawks or hand axes as defensive weapons.
- Knife combat basics: defensive stances and slashing techniques.
11. Traumatic First-Aid Training
- DR-ABC
- Tourniquets, Chest Seals & Combat dressigns
- Your IFAK _ Individual First Aid Kit
Afternoon Session: Live Firearms Drills
13. Live -Fire training
- Participants will fire a total of 80 rounds across various weapon systems:
- Glock 17/19 pistols: rapid-fire drills at varying distances (10m–25m).
- AK-47/74 rifles: static shooting from prone, standing, and kneeling positions.
- Hunting rifles: sighting and grouping at long range.
- Shotguns: close-range target engagement.
- Reloading Under Stress while maintaining situational awareness.
14. Mental Resilience in Action
- Cognitive Reframing
- Reinterpreting challenges as opportunities for growth in survival situations.
Minimum Kit Requirement
- Warm clothing & hiking boots
- Day sack (small backpack)
- Small (lockable) folding knife or multi-tool
- Notebook & pen
Optional Kit
- Compass (Silva or similar)
